Madhya Pradesh to make emergency button and vehicle location tracking mandatory in passenger vehicles by February
Tracking of passenger transport vehicles like cabs, auto rickshaws, buses and taxis for women safety is likely to become a reality in Madhya Pradesh, with the transport department setting up a command and control centre for responding alerts.
Vehicle location tracking (VLT) devices and emergency buttons will be made mandatory for all passenger vehicles once this centre is established.
While all new vehicles have the in-built VLTD and panic button, old vehicles would have to install them before they go apply for annual fitness test applications.
Facilities will locate the vehicles in case passengers press the panic button seeking emergency help. The system will generate alerts and messages such as speeding, Geo- Fence Alerts (restricted-area violation) and route violation. Emergency help alert will be the “highest priority alert”.
