As per Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS-2016-17), in Madhya Pradesh 28.1% of all adults (38.7% of men and 16.8% of women) (15 years and above) use smokeless tobacco. Gutka and Khaini are the most commonly used form of SLT products.

Smokeless tobacco is a major cause of concern as 50% of the oral cancers in India are linked to them. Madhya Pradesh government needs to develop specific policies to control tobacco epidemic.

This was said in a consultation on Smokeless tobacco and other issues organized by Madhya Pradesh Voluntary Health Association with the support of International Union Against Tuberculosis & Lung Diseases (The Union).

Nutri Garden Inaugurated by Women and Child Development Ministry

The Union Minister for Women & Child Development, inaugurated Nutri Garden to denote the starting of Poshan Maah 2021 at All India Institute of Ayurveda.

Highlights:

Plantation of Shigru (Sahijan) & Amla saplings were additionally carried out. All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi under the direction of the Ministry of Ayush initiated the occasion of Poshan Maah 2021.

Nutri kitchen garden/Nutri backyard is a method of planting and harvesting nutrient-rich vegetation in residential houses or in their neighborhood to meet the necessities of the family all year round.

In city areas, Nutri kitchen gardening can be promoted in the structure of rooftop gardening, terrace gardening, vertical gardening and container gardening.

UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue

The eleventh India-United Kingdom Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD) was held virtually with the Finance Minister leading the Indian delegation.

Highlights:

The dialogue covers, among other things, economic cooperation discussions on multilateral issues, including and COP26.

Both aspects deliberated on furthering Financial Services collaboration with different emphasis on Fin-Tech and GIFT City, annual India-UK Financial Market Dialogue and measures underway to reform economic markets.

Atlas of Mortality and Economic Losses from Weather, Climate and Water Extremes (1970-2019) was released on September 1, 2021.

According to the atlas, developed nations incurred the bulk of $3.6tn in economic losses because of severe weather events in past five decades.

According to scientists of UNs world meteorological organisation, in past 50 years, number of weather-related disasters had increased fivefold across the globe.

In this period, death toll of 115 people and more than $200m was lost every day. The death toll was the result of Climate Change, more extreme weather and improved reporting.

In this period, total losses amounted to $3.6tn and 2m deaths.

For instance, estimated cost of Hurricane Ida, fifth-largest hurricane to make landfall in US, could be about $80bn.

Three out of 10 worlds costliest disasters occurred in 2017 alone namely- hurricanes Harvey (cost-$96.9bn), Maria (cost-$69.4bn) and Irma (cost-$58.2bn).

Ayush Ministry launched the campaign called AYUSH AAPKE DWAR from some 45 locations across India.

Campaign was launched by Minister of State for Ayush from Ayush Bhawan by distributing medicinal Plants to staff.

About 21 states are participating in launch activities in which more than 2 lakh saplings will be distributed across India.

AYUSH AAPKE DWAR campaign was launched with the aim of distributing medicinal plant saplings to 75 lakh households in India in one year. These medicinal plants include Ashoka, Tejpatta, Stevia, Ashwagandha, Jatamansi, Giloy/Guduchi, Shatavari, Guggulu, Lemongrass, Tulsi, Sarpagandha, Brahmi, Kalmegh and Amla.

Under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, various other programs were launched such as- launch of the Y-Break App and distribution of Prophylactic Ayush Drugs.

AYUSH Ministry is dubbed as Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy. It was set up on November 9, 2014 to develop Education, research and propagation of indigenous alternative medicine systems across India. This ministry was renamed as Ministry of AYUSH on April 13, 2021. This ministry includes seven traditional systems of healthcare.

AYUSH ministry runs various healthcare programs, with primary focus on rural Population. It forms an integral backbone of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Till date, about 50000 children have been enrolled in Homeopathy for Healthy Child.
